There are many SIGs (Special Interest Groups) in the NSS. These SIGs include cavers
with a variety of interests such as cave diving, cave photography, vertical techniques,
cave rescue, cave geology, and many more. If you would like to see what SIGs the NSS has
to offer (the NSS refers to them as sections), check out the above link to the NSS.
In particular, I have an avid interest in cave surveying.
In the past, I received a questionnaire via email from a journalist. It contained many
basic questions that people ask about caving, so I decided to post them here with my
answers. Here they are :
How did you get involved in caving? What do you love about it? What do you find the most
challenging?
What's involved in caving? How do you learn? What kind of equipment do you need?
Can you tell me a couple of stories about your experiences caving? Stuff you'd tell to
family members or other cavers about the best/most exciting/funniest times you've had
doing this.
Is caving very dangerous? What kinds of injuries are common? What kind of shape should you
be in?
If you had any advice to someone who's interested in beginning to do this kind of
recreational activity, what would it be?
